The Galleon, St. Kilda

The Galleon, Carlisle St. St. Kilda is a very grungy kind of feel. On first impression, it looks very crowded and a little dirty. With horrendous 'art' on the walls. We got a table right away, and they took our drink orders immediately - but then proceeded to forget about us completely. Very annoying, especially when you can see waiters walking around not that busy.

But, the coffee was beautiful!!!!! Realy yummy. And the eggs, people, the eggs were actually cooked!!!!!!!! Daz got his fried eggs, without having to explain to them that he wants the yolk runny, but no snot on top. He did mention that the sausage was too spicy for his taste.

My food was very tasty. Eggs were cooked well and I ordered a sweet potato hash brown, which was very yummy.

I was very happy with the food and definitely happy with the coffee. Just not a cosy feel in the place. It felt a little bit like one of those places where the people that work there feel a little too cool. But, I would recommend for the food and coffee!!

The Pound, Elsternwick

The Pound, Carre St. Elsternwick is a great breakfast place. Can get very busy and loud, and lot's of prams for some reason.

The breakfast menu has always been good - except the bread options, they need a rye option which isn't too 'sour' tasting. Eggs can only be poached or scrambled. The bircher muesli is great.

Coffee has always been really good here - about 4 stars. Service is pretty good, but sometimes if you are early in the morning there can be a bit of moodiness, which I find beyond irritating.

Loco's Elsternwick

Loco's, Glenhuntly Rd. Elsternwick is a fantastic breakfast place. This is the only place where I have only ever had excellent coffee - be it full cream or skinny, doesn't matter who makes the coffee it is always fantastic. Easily 5 stars for the coffee.

The food is great too. They only do either poached or scrambled eggs - not fried, which is a little annoying, but healthier anyway. The eggs have always been excellent. The bircher muesli is the best!!! Really yummy.

Great atmosphere, very busy, good vibe - can be very loud - but the service is always excellent, and the coffee is beyond!!!!

Highly recommend Loco's!!

North Point cafe

North Point cafe, North Rd. Brighton is a great breakfast place. Always have had good food here. The only problem with this one, is there seem to be a lot of flies. Don't know why - maybe close to the beach?

They do great eggs here - no runny snot white bits. Great menu options. Great service.

Coffee . . . when I have full cream capaccinos they are fantastic!!!! Skinny milk was absolutely shit. Could not drink it. Tasted like bitter cigarette water. To be fair though, I have mainly had full cream coffee here and it has been excellent every time - the skinny milk I have only had once. I'm undecided though, because there shouldn't have been such a disgusting coffee, even though it was only once.

I recommend this place for the food - the flies are annoying though.

The Shire

The Shire, Victoria St. Fitzroy is a fantastic breakfast place. Really great cosy feel. Beautiful tables and set up.

The food was excellent. Everything I have had here tastes great.

Coffee is great - 4 stars.

Highly recommend this place!!

Fidels

Fidels, Mt. Alexander Rd. Essendon was NOT a good experience. The place is not inviting and gives the impression of being a bit dirty. Once we were seated I had a sinking feeling, and thought this is not going to be good. Bad sign.

My order had the wrong bread, and the hash brown was not edible. It tasted as though the oil it was deep fried in was totally rancid. Dazza's expereince was even worse (he always get the worse deal). He now always explains to the waiter that he want his fried eggs cooked properly. Meaning the yolk is runny, but the white part is cooked and not runny like snot. Sadly, is eggs were not cooked properly, so he sent them back. When his food was returned, the chef had merely flipped those same eggs, making them very rubbery and shit. The chef did not cook fresh eggs for him. Daz did not eat the eggs, but left them on his plate. At this point he was offered to have his meal cooked again, but Daz decided there was no point, as they would come out the same.

The worst part was the waitress argued with Daz, telling him it's impossible to cook the eggs without burning them, and then proceeded to charge him, saying it is their policy.

Not a good expereince - will never go here again.

Coffee was ok. 3 stars for the coffee. No stars for the place.

Omni restaurant

Omni Restaurant, Keilor Rd. Niddrie has a really cosy and cute feel. Dazza and I have very different thoughts about this place. I love it - love the feel of it and most of all LOVE the ricotta pancakes. Best ever! But, Daz has had a really bad experience with the eggs!! Again, the fried eggs were not cooked well, leaving the white part runny like snot. So he sent them back, which I assume the chef was not happy about as he sent out fried eggs which were pretty much burnt, as was the toast. So Daz was not happy. Understandably. But, the ricotta pancakes are to die for. And great people that own and serve - not the chef though.

Depending on who makes the coffee it is either fantastic, or pretty shit. This is annoying, obviously. As I find it difficult to say 'capaccino, but only made by her.' When it's good I give it 4 stars, when it's bad, it gets 1 star.

Also, Daz not happy with the sausage options, as there is only a spicy one.

Decide for yourself, but for me the ricotta pancakes are heaven!!
